ARMOUR SQUARE — At the start of the 2016 season, U.S. Cellular Field will sport a gigantic, state-of-the-art video board over center field, according to a report from Crain’s Chicago Business.
In a partnership with the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, the government agency that owns the ballpark, the White Sox plan to unveil a 6,500-square-foot board — almost five times the size of the team’s current board, the smallest in Major League Baseball.
The new board — including digital versions of the Cell’s famed spinning pinwheels — will put the ballpark in MLB’s Top 10 for biggest screens.
The $7.3 million digital board installation will also plant new screens in left and right fields, the report said.
Officials with the Sox and the sports facilities authority were not immediately available for comment Thursday.
