LINCOLN PARK — The folks behind Taco Joint have officially opened another restaurant right next to their Halsted Street location, it was announced Wednesday.

The Mexican has taken over the space formerly occupied by at least a couple different restaurants, including Rustic House and Giselle's, 1967 N. Halsted St. The new spot is modeled after diner-style restaurants, or fondas, in Mexico City, according to a news release.

For now, the restaurant will only serve dinner, adding lunch and brunch service in the coming months.

On the dinner menu is a range of Mexican dishes like ceviche, quesadillas, tacos and enchiladas, which diners are encouraged to mix and match or share. Drink-wise, expect signature mezcalitas and margaritas, local craft beers and cocktails on the menu.

In addition to the location right next door to The Mexican at 1969 N. Halsted St., Taco Joint has another location in River North at 158 W. Ontario St.

The Mexican will be open Sunday through Thursday 4-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 4 p.m.-midnight.
