BRIDGEPORT — “It’s time to say 'Enough.'”

That was the message delivered by Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11th) Tuesday evening at an Operation Wake Up! Rally at the corner of 32nd Place and Morgan Street, where more than two dozen neighborhood folks stood in solidarity against the violence that’s ripped across Chicago this year.

Thompson shared city-wide crime statistics tallied this year:

2,271 shootings. 394 murders. 2,155 arrests. More than 5,000 guns pulled off the streets by police.

Locally, in Beat 913 — running from Halsted Street to Racine and 35th to 31st streets — police have arrested more than 70 people for illegally carrying guns, Thompson said.

“We’ve been working with police to get illegal guns off the streets,” he said. “They’re doing great work.”

Deering District Police Cmdr. Daniel Godsel took the microphone next, telling the locals in attendance they have one of the most “robust” CAPS programs in the city.

Godsel reminded the audience the reason for community rally is to celebrate the good people of the neighborhood and let the bad guys know the police are keeping tabs on them.

“I hope they hear me,” he said.
