WEST LOOP — Drivers can again expect heavy delays around the Jane Byrne Interchange this weekend, Illinois Department of Transportation officials announced Friday.

In the third of four consecutive weekends of closures, the outbound Eisenhower Expressway will be closed beyond the Dan Ryan/Kennedy Expy. exit ramps between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday. A detour will direct traffic to the outbound Dan Ryan and the 18th Street interchange, officials said.

Further, the inbound Kennedy will be whittled down to one lane between Ohio Street and Harrison Street between 8 p.m Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Starting at 10 p.m., officials said, all lanes will be closed just before the junction in 15-minute intervals.

The closures are due to the installation of steel beams that will be needed to support a new flyover bridge linking the inbound Dan Ryan to the outbound Eisnenhower. It's all part of a major overhaul of the Interchange that's led to many days of nightmarish traffic this year.
