COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man who was shot by police Monday night was held without bail Wednesday after prosecutors alleged he pointed a gun at officers.

Pares Harrington, 22, climbed into an open window after the shooting and briefly hid in a stranger's home before he was arrested, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

"He pointed a gun at a Chicago Police officer [and] he ran into a residence," Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas said Wednesday. "He is a danger to the public. No bail."

Harrington, of the 4800 block of West Wabansia Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, criminal trespass and being an armed habitual criminal.

He is currently on parole for a 2014 drug conviction and was previously convicted in a 2011 unlawful-use-of-a-weapon case.

Police in the gang unit first spotted Harrington about 9:40 p.m. Monday near Laramie Avenue and Thomas Street, according to prosecutors. He was "sweating profusely" and only wearing one shoe, Scaduto said.

Harrington was in the area to see his 1-year-old son when police approached him, his ex-girlfriend told DNAinfo Chicago. She said she heard

As officers tried to talk to Harrington, he ran away — eventually tripping and falling, prosecutors said. When Harrington fell, a gun allegedly slid from his waistband.

Prosecutors said Harrington pointed the gun at police, and one of the officer pulled his own weapon and fired several shots. Harrington was shot in his shoulder before hopping a fence and climbing into a nearby window, Scaduto said.

The residents of the home did not know Harrington, she added.

Police said they found Harrington hiding under a bed, and found blood on the floor and window of the room.

Officers recovered a 9mm gun with 13 live rounds — 11 in the magazine and two jammed in the chamber, according to Scaduto.

Harrington has four prior felony convictions and was out on bond for a pending reckless-conduct case at the time of the shooting, court records show.
