HYDE PARK — An electrician died after falling off the roof of the City Hyde Park development Monday.
According to police, a 38-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:10 a.m. at 1501 E. Hyde Park Blvd.
Police declined to give further details and it’s unclear whether it was a suicide or an accident.
Workers on the scene said there was no work being done on the roof of the Jeanne Gang-designed building and most of Monday morning's jobs were being done on the opposite end of the 15-story apartment building slated to open in 2016 with a Whole Foods on the ground floor.
Workers said all work was stopped after a woman walking down Lake Park Avenue with her daughter reported a piece of debris had fallen off the building.
Police still had cordoned off a section of Lake Park Avenue between Hyde Park Boulevard and 52nd Street at 11:30 a.m.
Metra police on the scene said they were considering temporarily shutting down the 51st Street platform because the man's body was still clearly visible under a sheet in the southbound lane of Lake Park Avenue.
