MORGAN PARK — An illegal home possession seminar will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Chicago Police Department's Morgan Park district station.

The free event at 1900 W. Monterey in Morgan Park comes in the wake of four men being charged on July 1 with burglary, theft and financial-institution fraud.

The men are accused of moving into vacant single-family homes in Beverly and Morgan Park that were tied up in the foreclosure process.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said the men filed fraudulent documents on the properties they did not own, took possession of the homes, changed the locks and began charging rent to fellow squatters.

The upcoming seminar aims to raise awareness about property fraud. It is being presented by Alvarez's South Side Community Justice Center in Chatham.

Representatives from the Beverly Area Planning Association and the Cook County Recorder of Deeds will also be on hand to give presentations. For more information, call the justice center at 773-783-5100.
