CHICAGO — Shootings left five men dead and 12 other people wounded between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, police said.

A man died and a woman was hurt in a shooting in Belmont Cragin Tuesday afternoon, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

A 16-year-old boy was shot to death, and two others — a 14-year-old girl and a 42-year-old woman — were hurt in a shooting in North Lawndale late Tuesday night, Estrada said.

About 40 minutes later, a man was found shot to death on the other side of North Lawndale, Estrada said.

Early Wednesday morning, Estrada said, two men were killed in a shooting in Uptown.

Two men were hurt, one critically, in a shooting in Humboldt Park Wednesday morning, Estrada said.

• At 12:47 a.m. Wednesday, a 27-year-old man was shot twice in the back of his head in the 2800 block of West Jackson Boulevard in East Garfield Park, Estrada said.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition, Estrada said.

He was not cooperative with police, Estrada said.

• About 15 minutes earlier, a 21-year-old man was critically hurt in a shooting in the 100 block of North Central Avenue in Austin, Estrada said.

Witnesses told police they saw four men running away from the shooting scene, Estrada said.

The man was brought to Loyola Hospital, where he was in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his back, Estrada said.

• Around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, three people were standing on the sidewalk in the 7500 block of North Ingleside Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing when someone came out of an alley and shot at them, Estrada said.

A 35-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, Estrada said.

A suspect is in custody, Estrada said.

• About 8:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing in the 1700 block of North Melvina Avenue in Austin when a car pulled up and someone inside shot at him, Estrada said.

The man was taken to Loyola Hospital, where he was in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his face and back, Estrada said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member, and they believe the shooting was gang-related.

• About a half hour earlier, a 22-year-old man was arguing with someone in the 300 block of North Central Avenue in Austin when the other person pulled out a gun and shot him in his right arm before running away, Estrada said.

The man was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

• At 12:04 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was walking in the 6700 block of South Prairie Avenue in Park Manor when she heard gunshots and felt pain, Estrada said.

She brought herself to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition with gunshot wounds in both her legs, Estrada said.

• Twenty minutes earlier, a 24-year-old man was doing maintenance work on a car in an alley in the 8800 block of South Racine Avenue in Auburn Gresham when a dark car drove by and someone inside shot at him, Estrada said.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound in his lower right leg, Estrada said.
