BACK OF THE YARDS — Deering District detectives have a warning for neighborhood folks: Beware of garage burglars.
In August, there were a rash of garage burglaries in the 3000 block of West 53rd Place and the 3100 block of West 54th Street, according to a recent report by Deering detectives.
Here’s a look at the incidents:
3000 Block of West 53rd Place at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.
3100 Block of West 54th Street at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.
3000 Block of West 53rd Street at midnight on Aug. 18.
3000 Block of West 54th Street at 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 28.
Here’s how police say you can protect yourself and your property:
• Keep your property well lit.
• Report suspicious activity immediately.
• Keep doors and windows secured.
• Immediately repair any broken windows, doors or locks.
• If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the crime for detectives.
• If you are a victim, do not touch anything. Call police immediately.
• If approached by a witness, ask for contact information.
