From Coast to Coast? Lincoln Park Officially Bounded by River and Lake

By Mina Bloom | August 31, 2015 5:33am

LINCOLN PARK — Not sure what the western boundary of Lincoln Park is? You're not alone.

DNAinfo Chicago launched an interactive Web app to find out what our readers think are each neighborhood's true boundaries.

Turns out, Lincoln Parkers aren't totally sure where the western boundary of the neighborhood lies. Some think it's Ashland Avenue, and others believe it's either Clybourn Avenue or the Kennedy Expressway.

We turned to the city's official map for answers.

According to the city, Lincoln Park's western boundary is actually the north branch of the Chicago River.

Lincoln Park's southern and northern boundaries, however, were better-defined. Most people knew that the neighborhood's southern boundary is North Avenue and its northern boundary is Diversey Parkway.

And most people knew that Lake Michigan is Lincoln Park's eastern boundary. (But a few people included some of the actual lake.)

Now that we know the truth, the eastern and western boundaries of Lincoln Park are pretty easy to remember: the neighborhood is sandwiched by two bodies of water, the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.

The city is officially divided into 77 community areas, but those areas don't represent some of the city's neighborhoods, including Bucktown and Wicker Park, which both fall under the West Town community area).
