Austin Shooting Kills 1 Man, Injures 2 Others, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 24-year-old man has died after a shooting in Austin last week.

Two men were driving in the 1100 block of North Cicero Avenue at 6 p.m. Aug. 24 when two men fired at them, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, Chicago Police spokesman. A man in the car was shot in his upper body and transported to Stroger Hospital and the other man in the car, who is 26 years old, was shot in his head and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Sweeney said.

A 42-year-old man who was in the area was shot in his arm and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, Sweeney said.

William Carter, 24, of the 1100 block of North LeClaire Avenue, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 6:53 p.m. Tuesday, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Carter died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Medical Examiner's records.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Sweeney said.
