ENGLEWOOD — Bring the family for live entertainment, free food and more as the resident Association of Greater Englewood wraps up its So Fresh Saturdays series this Saturday.

The back-to-school finale will be at Hamilton Park Cultural Center, 513 W. 72nd St., from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

RAGE’s president, Asiaha Butler, said that the series, which kicked off at the beginning of the summer in June, has gone really well.

“This is our third year doing it, and I just think that each year it has just gotten better and better, and the attendance has increased,” Butler said.

She said that hosting the summer series with the help of local partners, such as Save Our Community Coalition, Hamilton Park, and the Englewood Community Cultural Planning Council, sends the message that there are good things happening in Englewood.

So Fresh Saturdays has been in five parks and there have been no incidents, Butler said.

“Residents just really want to come out and enjoy the parks in their neighborhood. They don’t want to be scared away by gang bangers, or people doing illegal activities. They want to bring their kids, they want to come out and get resources for the family. They want to see entertainment and let their kids have a really good time in the park. And that’s exactly what it has been in each stop that we’ve done.”

This Saturday will be slightly different because children are preparing for school. They will receive backpacks and school supplies. St. Bernard Hospital will also have its pediatric mobile unit on site to provide physicals for the children.

Attendees can expect food, live entertainment, and activities.

“It’s going to be a really good time, I’m excited,” Butler said, adding that the event not only gives local artists a platform to get their name out, but the event promotes peace.

So Fresh Saturdays is part of the citywide Night Out in the Parks initiative. The initiative takes over five parks in the Englewood community with the goal of creating and spreading peace.
