HYDE PARK — Hyde Park is getting a new book fair on Aug. 30, this time for independent authors.

The Indie City Book Fair will be from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Hyde Park Free Theater, 1448 E. 57th St.

The fair offers a chance to shine to independent authors who may have been left out of the neighborhood's used book or children's book fairs.

"The cool thing about indies is they tend to take a lot of risks in their writing,” said Kirsten Jensen, a Hyde Park-based murder-mystery writer and an organizer of the fair. “It’s a chance for people to come out and meet some really innovative and original independent authors, and hear their stories firsthand."

Jensen is among the authors that will be featured at the fair, a list that also includes, M.L. Kennedy, Samantha Clark, Melanie Holmes, Tyler Coulson, L. Nahay, Frank Heiberger, Connie Corcoran Wilson, Janina Rusiecki, Elizabeth Wheeler and James Gordon.

Chicago-based publisher Featherproof Books will also promote its roster of authors.
