HYDE PARK — Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) said she wanted Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh in South Shore, and the organizers of the South Shore Summer Festival have made it happen.

Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh will headline the South Shore Summer Festival Sunday at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.

Festival organizers said they went to Hairston for suggestions on whom to book for the fifth annual festival, and the alderman came back with the duo behind “La Di Da Di” at the top of her list.

“I’m a fan,” Hairston said. “We weren’t able to get them last year, but we got them this year.”

She said she’s not the only fan, and that board members of Special Service Area No. 42 were also on board with bringing the “Original Human Beat Box” and “Rick the Ruler” to South Shore.

“It’s going to be a great Sunday afternoon,” Hairston said.

The festival opens at 11 a.m. with music starting at noon.

About 20 local vendors will be offering food and refreshments. Slots are still open for vendors, and  Hairston encouraged local businesses to sign up by calling Special Events Management at 773-868-3010.

The full lineup includes:

Noon Yemi Marie  (rhythm and blues, hip-hop)

12:45 p.m. South Shore Drill Team

1:30 p.m. T.L. Williams (rhythm and blues, steppers)

4:15 p.m. Terisa Griffin (soul, jazz)

6 p.m. Slick Rick (hip-hop)
