WEST LOOP — Inspired by William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," a new wine bar is now under construction on Randolph.

Sommelier Tom Powers plans to open The Lunatic, The Lover & The Poet, a two-story modern wine bar at 736 W. Randolph St. in November, a spokesman confirmed this week. In addition to wine, the restaurant plans to serve up craft cocktails and small plates.

Powers, an industry veteran and former host of Discovery Channel's "BarHunters," said the wine list will be "structured like a handshake."

"The idea is to welcome you to a party. At that party I hope you see some people you know, and see people you’d like to meet that you’ve heard of," he said of the wine list. "Hopefully you have time to spend time with people that you know nothing about but you will discover you really like them.”

The Lunatic, The Lover & The Poet will offer 24 wines on tap on the first floor and 200 wines will be available by the bottle. About half of the wines will be from the United States.

The two-story bar, slated to seat 177, is being designed by James Geier of 555 Design. The first floor will feature a large chandelier with crystals hanging from wine vines. Two private dining rooms will be in the wine cellar and second floor.

The Lunatic, The Lover & The Poet will be open for lunch and dinner.
