RIVER WEST — A Lakeview restaurant touting "the best damn chicken in Chicago" is bringing its fowl to River West.

The Roost Carolina Kitchen, which got its start as a food truck three years ago, will open a new restaurant at 457 N. Milwaukee Ave. in "late September," general manager Ashley Gleason said.

The new restaurant will seat about 20 inside, 30 outside, and allow guests to bring their own alcohol, Gleason said. Pedestrians will also be able to order from a walk-up window.

The Roost is the brainchild of Chapel Hill, N.C. native Joe Scroggs, who debuted his food truck here in 2012. Last year, he opened his first restaurant at 1467 W. Irving Park Road in Lakeview.

The River West menu will be the same as the original, featuring fried chicken (including boneless), biscuit sandwiches and peach cobbler.

Gleason said work on the new restaurant is ongoing, and a specific opening date has not yet been determined.
