WEST ENGLEWOOD — Two children under 10 were among those wounded by gun violence this weekend.
A five-year-old girl is in serious condition after being hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet in West Englewood Sunday evening, police said.
At about 8:40 p.m., two people got into an argument on the 5600 block of South Bishop Avenue, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. One of them pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the girl standing nearby, Sedevic said.
Afterward, the shooter drove away in a white SUV, Sedevic said, and the girl was brought to Comer's Children's Hospital for treatment.
A seven-year-old boy was shot Sunday in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side. At around 8:45 p.m., the boy was shot while he was riding in a car with a 19-year-old, according to reports. The boy's condition is reportedly stable.
