JEFFERSON PARK — A new church will host a series of family-friendly events as summer begins to wind down, officials said.

"Big Hero 6" will be shown under the stars at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of The Branch Community Church, 6125 W. Foster Ave.

"We"re glad to be a part of the Jefferson Park summertime scene, and to be providing opportunities for folks to gather together in fun, safe, community-building ways," said lead pastor Robbie deMarigny.

Popcorn will be provided, and attendees can bring lawn chairs and sleeping bags. In case of rain, the movie will be shown inside. This event is free.

The church will also host Springhill Summer Day Camp from Aug. 10-14 for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Participants will experience rock climbing, bungee trampoline, archery, laser tag, water slides and paintball, organizers said.

Participants will also create their own tie-dye T-shirts along with other crafts, organizers said.

The cost for the week-long camp is $179, and sibling discounts and scholarship assistance are available, organizers said. Registration is available online.

A free picnic from noon to 2 p.m. will celebrate the end of the camp and feature walking tacos, watermelon and ice cream sandwiches, officials said.

In addition, students in sixth through 12th grades will go to Noah's Ark Water Park at Wisconsin Dells on Aug. 23 and a good-bye summer party is scheduled for Aug. 30, church officials said.

A community block party is in the works for mid-September, and is expected to feature lunch, snow cones, cotton candy, games and music, church officials said.
