NORWOOD PARK — Officers from the Jefferson Park Police District will celebrate National Night Out from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4 with an evening of family fun.

The family-friendly event at Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma Ave., will include music, an antique car show, children’s activities and a blood drive, organizers said.

National Night Out "is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live," according to organizers of the nationwide event.

A self-defense seminar will take place, organizers said.

In addition to two jump houses, a balloon artist will be on hand and a family swim will take place, organizers said.

The Chicago Police Department Canine Unit, Mounted Unit and crime lab — as well as the department's helicopter — have been invited to attend the event co-sponsored by the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce, organizers said.

The Jefferson Park Police District — the largest in the city — encompasses all of the Far Northwest Side.
