CHICAGO — A man attempted to rob a University of Illinois at Chicago student late Monday, police say.

The UIC student was walking on the sidewalk at 750 S. Halsted St. when a man in a white sedan pulled up, implied he had a weapon and told the student to give him his belongings, according to a UIC Police crime alert.

The student fled without giving the man anything and was not injured, according to police. The wannabe thief drove away, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 311. Police recommend complying with an armed or violent offender if they are trying to rob you, according to the alert.
