CHICAGO — The driver of a silver van lead police on an 8 mile chase from Garfield Park to Chicago Lawn Monday night, police said.

Around 10:30 p.m., officers saw someone open fire from a silver van in the 3200 block of West Carroll Avenue and began to pursue the van south on Western Avenue, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The van sped through a red light at the intersection of 59th Street and Western Avenue and struck two cars ending the chase, Estrada said.

The driver of the van was taken to Stroger in "stable" condition. Four other people were taken from the scene to Holy Cross in good condition, Estrada said.

Four people were in custody for the incident, Estrada said.
