Officer Shoots Man Who Was Beating Victim With a Baseball Bat, Police Say

 Police shot a man after he refused to stop beating his victim with a baseball bat, according to a Chicago Police Department statement.

CHICAGO — An officer shot a man who was beating another man with a baseball bat early Monday, according to a police statement.

Police were on patrol when they received a report of a large fight and saw a man hitting another man with a baseball bat at 4 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Clybourn Avenue in the Near North Side, according to police. Police ordered the man to stop but the man continued to hit the victim with his bat, according to police.

An officer fired at the man and hit him, according to police, and the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

There were no injuries to police and the bat was recovered on the scene, according to police.
