Two Armed Robberies, Attempted Armed Robbery Hit Near West Side Sunday

NEAR WEST SIDE — UIC Police are warning residents after two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery occurred on the Near West Side Sunday.

• At about 2 a.m. Sunday, a man was the victim of an armed robbery near Taylor and Ada streets, according to UIC Police.

The victim reported that he was approached by three black male teens. One displayed a handgun and took the victim's cash and cell phone. All three teens, who remain at larger, were last seen headed eastbound on Taylor Street on foot.

• At about 6:50 p.m. Sunday, a man was the victim of a strong-arm robbery near Lexington and  Loomis streets. 

Three males exited a silver Chevy Cruze, approached the victim and demanded his possessions. The man surrendered his property before the three fled northbound on Loomis, circled around to Roosevelt Road and entered I-90/I-94
heading southbound.

Witnesses followed the offenders and obtained a license plate and description of the car, police said. Officials did not make public the license plate information. No further descriptions of the attackers, who remain at large, were available.

• At about 9:30 p.m., an attempted armed robbery occurred near 800 block of South Loomis Street.

A male victim reported that he was approached by three males. The victim did not surrender any possessions before the males fled on foot southeast through Arrigo Park.

The first offender was described as a black male, approximately 5-foot-11, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark basketball shorts. The second and third offenders were described only as black males.

UIC officials said none of the victims were affiliated with the university.
