Police Issue Warning for Craigslist Robbers in Albany Park, North Center

By Alex Nitkin | July 6, 2015 6:14pm

ALBANY PARK — Police released a community alert Monday warning Albany Park and North Center residents of a pair of robberies that occurred Friday.

Police say two men made off with an iPhone and an Apple Watch after robbing them from people on the 3100 block of West Lawrence Avenue in Albany Park and the 3900 block of North Western Avenue North Center, respectively. The victims had both placed ads for the items on Craigslist, the police report said.

The men arranged meetings with them, police said, then "battered the victim[s] with their fists" and made off with the items.

Police described the robbers as two black men in their early 20s, about 5 feet, 10 inches and 150 pounds, wearing "all dark clothing."

Police warned residents in the area to be careful when using sites like Craigslist, suggesting that they meet potential buyers or sellers "at a nearby police station ... to protect yourself from similar incidents."

Anyone with information on the robberies is encouraged to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
