SOUTH SHORE — A boy is in serious condition after being hit by an SUV while on a basketball court in South Shore Wednesday evening, police and a witness said.

The boy was near the intersection of 75th Street and Jeffery Boulevard when he was struck by the vehicle and transported to Comer's Hospital in serious condition, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Sweeney did not confirm an exact location or time. Free-lance photographer Devlin Brown said the boy was on the basketball court at Rosenblum Park, next to South Shore College Prep around 5:30 p.m. when he was struck.

Tire tracks could be seen on the soccer field leading onto the basketball court Wednesday evening. Officers used crime tape to seal off one court as a group of boys with a basketball stood in the next court over.

Police officers were seen examining a black GMC Yukon in the staff parking lot of the high school.

A person of interest is in custody, Sweeney said.
