CHICAGO — Pick up a scalpel, kids.

Children ages 6 to 12 who are aspiring veterinarians can learn from actual animal doctors about the profession this summer at two workshops called "Junior Vet Academy."

The interactive program is held at the Chicago Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center, 3123 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lakeview.

Veterinarians and hospital staff will teach kids about surgery, bandaging, X-rays, microscopes, patient exams and more, according to a flyer.

Kids get to bring home a lab coat, stethoscope, graduate certificate and "patient" — a stuffed animal.

Sessions begin at 10 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, June 28, and Aug. 9.

Registration costs $60 per student and aspiring vets can register here.

Proceeds benefit the Anti-Cruelty Society.
