CHICAGO — The Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives and National Park Conservation Association are being honored for their work on the Pullman National Monument
The organizations worked together to have Pullman be designated a national park.
President Barack Obama traveled to Pullman in February to name the area a national monument. In response, the Chicago Neighborhoods Initiatives and the National Parks Conservation Association will receive the John Baird Award for Stewardship from the Commission on Chicago Landmarks.
“The award honors outstanding individuals and groups that further historic preservation in Chicago,” Eleanor Gorski, director of Historic Preservation, Bureau of Zoning and Land Use, said in a news release. “This is the premier award in a group of awards that celebrate Chicago’s preservation excellence.”
