WICKER PARK — In a fast turnover, Division Street staple Thai Village has been transformed into Silli Kori, a sleek and cozy eatery with craft beers, Champagne and late-night snacks such as brandy marinated chicken wings and shrimp toast.

Though initially having announced a Monday debut, some electrical issues forced the date to be pushed to Friday, Silli Kori's owner Kori Luangsuwan said.

After its opening night from 5 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, Silli Kori will be open at 11 a.m. for lunch daily, except for Sundays.

Fans of Thai Village might be happy to find that popular dishes like Pad Thai will remain on the menu, which Luangsuwan said will be very similar to Thai Village's offerings.

"Silli Kori caters more toward the nightlife crowd but is also there for people that liked Thai Village and just want carryout or delivery," she said Tuesday.

A late-night snack menu offers several options such as steamed mussels and nutty coconut-dipped chicken, with all dishes priced between $5 and $13.

Generous orders of six individual crab rangoon and six pot stickers are $6 each, while two egg rolls, stuffed with chicken, vermicelli rice and carrots, are $5.

Drinks include eight craft beers on draft and 10 in bottles, from brewers such as Metropolitan and Off Color, as well as red and white wines and champagne, in both glass and bottles.

Luangsuwan, 34, who previously worked for Thai Village's owner Chution Ruanphan for several years, is Ruanphae's niece.

Ruanphae continues to own the building, at the southeast corner of Hoyne and Division streets, and could be relocating Thai Village somewhere else, she said in April when the restaurant, established in 1996, abruptly closed for remodeling.

Though most of the team, which includes former Thai Village workers, is in place, there are still a few part and full-time job openings for servers and bartenders.

Job seekers can send resumes by email to sillikori.chicago@gmail.com or just walk in, Luangsuwan said.
