BEVERLY — Town Liquors might not have a front window, but the owners certainly have a sense of humor.

The liquor store at 10000 S. Western Ave. in Beverly suffered serious damage when an SUV crashed into the front window of the store on May 27.

The damage has since been boarded up until the replacement windows arrive. Meanwhile, the owners of the store have used their marquee to poke a bit of fun at the situation.

"Open During Construction, Drive Thru Closed," reads the sign facing Western Avenue.

It perhaps goes without saying that Town Liquor does not have a drive-through window.

The accident occurred around 12:10 p.m. as the driver of a white, four-door Toyota SUV swerved to avoid a pedestrian, said Tom Gibbons, the manager of the store.

A white Toyota SUV drove into Town Liquor, 10000 S. Western Ave., on May 27. The owner said no one was hurt in the accident.

Gibbons, surveying the damage outside of his store last month, said it appeared that nobody was seriously injured as a result of the crash.

He also said that it was the second time in 20 years that a vehicle had crashed into Town Liquors. Previously, an older driver plowed into the same windows.

That time, the driver was parked in front of the building and thought he had his vehicle in reverse. Instead, he drove through the front door.
