DOWNTOWN — Chicagoans can transport themselves back to the Dublin, Ireland, of 1904 when the Cliff Dwellers club holds their annual Bloomsday celebration of James Joyce's "Ulysses" at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Joyce's masterpiece, of course, concerns a day in the life of Dublin: June 16, 1904, to be exact. Joyce later proclaimed it Bloomsday, after the lead character Leopold Bloom, and readings from the book take place around world.
Consul General of Ireland Aidan Cronin and his wife, Maedhbh, are lead sponsors of the Cliff Dwellers event, which also includes readings and discussions of Joyce's work and its influence.
The reading is free, with a $50 charge for an additional dinner and discussion afterward. In either case, attendees are asked to call the club at 312-922-8080 to save a space.
