BEVERLY — A string of five garage burglaries in Beverly prompted police to issue a community alert Thursday.

The burglaries occurred during the late night and early morning hours in May in the 10300-10700 blocks between Leavitt Street and Artesian Avenue, the alert states.

In all the robberies, the burglar enters the garage by prying open a side door or finding an unlocked door. Once inside, the burglar steals bicycles, lawn equipment and tools, according to the alert.

"Be on the lookout for suspicious people walking in this area between midnight and 5 a.m., looking into parked cars or backyards and notify police immediately with a detailed description," the alert states.

Police also recommend locking all doors and windows to garages, keeping gates locked and fences secure and calling 911 with any reports of suspicious people or activity.
