LINCOLN PARK — It's Obu!

Snow monkey fans have spoken and decided on Obu as the name for the Lincoln Park Zoo's baby Japanese macaque.

Obu was the top choice out of five during the crowd sourced effort to name the snow monkey.

Thirty-seven percent of voters chose Obu as the top name, followed by 21 percent for Osaka, 19 percent for Okuchi, 16 percent for Otsu and six percent for Obihiro.

All the choices are names of Japanese cities.

Obu was born May 2, less than a year after the zoo opened the state-of-the-art habitat and has been clinging to his mother, Ono, ever since.

The infant has been growing quickly and is becoming more independent, according to the zoo.

The birth of Obu grew the troop to nine snow monkeys at the zoo.

Guests can see Obu daily at the Regenstein Macaque Forest.
