CHICAGO — A 4-year-old girl who was shot in her head in West Englewood Friday night has been upgraded to fair condition, Hospital officials said.

The girl was taken to Comer Children's Hospital Friday night in critical condition. Her condition was upgraded to serious Sunday, then upgraded to fair on Monday, according to hospital officials.

Around 7:55 p.m. Friday, the 4-year-old and a 17-year-old boy were sitting in a car in the 7000 block of South Justine Street when another vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots in their direction, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The 17-year-old was shot in his chest and suffered a graze wound on his neck and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Estrada said.

A 15-year-old girl standing nearby was shot in her forehead and taken to Stroger Hospital where her condition stabilized, Estrada said.

According to the Sun-Times, the three were at a prom party. The 4-year-old was identified by family as Jacele Johnson; her mother was planning to move the family to Minnesota to escape Chicago's gun violence.
