COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man accused of selling pot to an undercover Chicago police officer recognized the officer a few weeks later and punched him, prosecutors said Thursday.

Eric Johnson, 37, sold $24 worth of marijuana to an undercover Chicago Police officer in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street on May 2, police and prosecutors said.

On Wednesday of this week, Johnson spotted the officer on the same street and said "I know you're the police, and I'm going to pop you," according to Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto, who spoke during a bond hearing Thursday.

Johnson then punched the officer several times, breaking the man's finger and spraining his shoulder, Scaduto said. After a struggle, police arrested Johnson about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Johnson, of the 7200 block of South Winchester Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault to a peace officer and selling marijuana.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas on Thursday ordered Johnson held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
