NOBLE SQUARE —  A man walked into a dry cleaners and pretended to be a customer before robbing the shop's owner at gunpoint and threatening to kill him, the victim told DNAinfo Chicago Thursday.

The incident, at Chicago Cleaners, 1400 W. Chicago Ave., happened around 1:20 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The gunman was described by owner Andrew Shin as a clean shaven, African-American man in his early 20s, about 5-foot-8 and wearing jeans and a light blue and gray plaid long-sleeved shirt.

"First he came in acting like a customer saying he needs to pick up clothes,'' Shin said. "I asked him for his name and he said his name is Malone. He did not look familiar but I went to go look for the clothes."

As Shin was doing that, the man lifted up his shirt and displayed a semiautomatic black gun, with wooden trim on the handle.

He said, "'This is what I'm about. Empty your drawer, give me your money or else I'm gonna pop you,'" Shin recalled.

Shin said he opened the register drawer slowly.

"I was taking my time, not rushing to give him money, and he said, 'Hurry up, I'm gonna count from 10, and will kill you if I get to 1,'" Shin said.

Shin said the man had "an urgent look on his face" and when he had counted down to 5, Shin said he gave him about $250 in cash.

The man fled southbound on foot, Shin said.

Police made no arrests as of Thursday evening, police said.
