SOUTH LOOP — You have until midnight Thursday to register for the Soldier Field 10-mile race, which will honor fallen service members over Memorial Day weekend.

The race will start 7 a.m. Saturday at Soldier Field, with check-in beginning at 5:15 a.m. Runners will finish on Soldier Field's 50-yard line. The event will pay tribute to servicemen and women with a moment of silence and the playing of "Taps" before the start of the race.

Active members of the military will give medals to those who finish the race, and the first-place winner will receive $500 and an American flag that was flown over Soldier Field. Second- through fifth-place winners will also receive monetary prizes.

Children ages 5-12 will be able to take part in the event's Kid Blitz, where they can run in a 50-yard dash and receive a shirt.

Registration is online and costs $90 for adults. Kid Blitz registration is $18. More than 14,000 people are expected to participate in the race.
