COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — When a South Side man got a parking ticket this week, he threw it to the ground and attacked the police officers who wrote it — shoving one of them into the street, prosecutors said.

"So that's how you handle a parking ticket?" Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. asked Kenneth Harris, 49, during a bond hearing Wednesday.

Harris had been walking back to his car about 1 a.m. Tuesday when he saw police ticketing it, according to Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti. Harris initially refused to take the ticket, she said, but eventually grabbed it, crumpled it up and tossed it to the ground.

He then told police "F--- you, I'll f--- you up," before walking toward the squad car and attacking the officers, an arrest report said.

Harris shoved one of the officers in his chest, sending him tumbling into the middle of the street, Antonietti said. Harris kicked another officer before police were able to detain him, authorities said.

According to the arrest report, Harris' 2008 Chevy had been parked in a 24-hour no parking zone in the 11100 block of South Michigan Avenue in Roseland.

In addition to the parking ticket, Harris was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, littering and obstruction.

Bourgeois ordered Harris, of the 11100 block of South Homewood Avenue, held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Harris' attorney said Harris has been a cook for Harold's Chicken for the last six years.
