AVALON PARK — The Aldi grocery store at 1246 E. 87th St. has closed.
More than 20,000 homes in the surrounding area received a door hanger from the store, notifying them about the May 3 closing, said Julie Ketay, a spokeswoman for the corporation.
"We take the closing of any Aldi store very seriously," she said in an email. "In this case, we made a business decision to close this store because there are several Aldi locations in the area that will continue to provide our customers with the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices."
Residents were given coupons for $5 off fresh produce that can be used at two other nearby locations, 7800 S. South Chicago Ave. and 2333 E. 95th St. through the end of the month.
All employees from the 87th Street location were able to transfer to one of the other Aldi stores in the area.
