Two Killed, 47 Wounded in Shootings During Violent Weekend

CHICAGO — Forty-nine people were shot, two fatally, across the city from Friday afternoon until a violent three hour stretch in South Shore early Monday, police said.

Most recently, a man was killed and two others were hospitalized in two shootings in South Shore. And on the Near West Side around 12:35 a.m., a 14-year-old boy was shot in his right hand.

Around 12:10 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in his right hand while walking in the 6200 block of South Bishop Avenue in Englewood, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Sedevic said.

Around 11:45 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot while standing on a porch with a group in the 5800 block of South Morgan Street in Englewood, Sedevic said.

He was shot in his abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Sedevic said.

Three hours earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot during a fight with another man in Chicago Lawn. Around 8:15 p.m., the man was shot in his leg while fighting with the man in the 7300 block of South Claremont Avenue, Sedevic said.

A friend took him to Holy Cross Hospital, but he was later transferred to Christ Hospital in serious condition, Sedevic said.

Around 6 p.m., a 23-year-old man was walking in the 7000 block of South Emerald Avenue in Englewood when shots were fired from a passing red car, Sedevic said.

He was shot in his arm and back then taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody for the shootings.

Sunday afternoon, a 22-year-old man became the 41st person to be shot in the city since Friday afternoon.

From Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, 14 people were wounded in shootings. Two teens, 14 and 16, were among four other people shot on Saturday afternoon. From West Pullman to Wicker Park, 16 people were shot including a 24-year-old man shot dead in University Village.

Six people, including an 81-year-old woman, were shot Friday night.
