Garfield Park Area Speed Cameras Issued More than $2.1 Million in Fines

CHICAGO — Two speed cameras posted in Garfield Park issued more than 18,000 tickets and more than $1.5 million in fines, city data shows.

The two cameras — at 3646 W. Madison St. and 3655 W. Jackson Blvd. — were the biggest generators by far of speeding tickets and fines in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

The neighborhood's other two cameras — at 3047 W. Jackson Blvd. near Horan Park and 324 S. Kedzie Ave. near Marshall High School — issued another 6,585 tickets and more than $560,000 in fines.

The highest-earning speed cameras in all of Chicago were in the Washington Park, West Pullman and East Side neighborhoods, with the highest earner bringing in more than $3.1 million for the city.

Speed cameras in Chicago can issue $35 tickets for motorists going 6 to 10 mph over the speed limit (but are currently only ticketing those going exactly 10 over), and $100 tickets for those going 11 or more mph over the speed limit. First-time offenders get a warning.

For Garfield Park's speed cameras:

• The camera at 3646 W. Madison St. issued 12,762 total tickets — 2,633 for $35 and 10,029 for $100 — and $1,095,055 in fines.

• The camera at 3655 W. Jackson Blvd. issued 5,358 total tickets — 1,236 for $35 and 4,122 for $100 — and $455,460 in fines.

• The camera at 3047 W. Jackson Blvd. issued 4,003 total tickets — 920 for $35 and 3,083 for $100 — and $340,000 in fines.

• The camera at 324 S. Kedzie Ave. issued 2,582 total tickets — 592 for $35 and 1,990 for $100 — and $219,720 in fines.
