Uptown Saturday Nights Features Free Music and Fun Saturday

CHICAGO — This summer Uptown will be bustling with free concerts, performances and tours as Uptown Saturday Nights looks to showcase the neighborhood's entertainment venues and cultural hot spots.

On the second Saturday of each month until the end of 2015, the joint effort by Uptown United and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events will bring free entertainment to multiple venues around the neighborhood.

Saturday's schedule of events is as follows:

• A Kid-Friendly Musical Performance: Laura Doherty will perform a family-friendly acoustic set from 4-5 p.m. at Ricques Cocina Mexicana, 5004 N. Sheridan Rd.

• Explore Argyle Are Businesses with Ald. Harry Osterman: From 5-6 p.m., enjoy an outdoor cocktail hour at 5020 N. Sheridan Rd. with free appetizers and drink specials hosted by Tweets and Big Chicks. From 6-7 p.m., experience one of the famous pig roasts at Sun Wah Bar-B-Q's, at 5039 N. Broadway.

• Traditional Chinese Music Concert: Head to the restored lobby of Somerset Place Apartments, at 5009 N. Sheridan Rd., for free appetizers and music from Jennifer Zhang from 7-8 p.m.

• Funkadesi Concert: Enjoy music from the local band Funkadesi, which blends Indian music with reggae, funk and Afro-Caribbean grooves. The music starts at 9 p.m. at Pho Viet, 4941 N. Broadway, which will also be offering a special late night menu.
