IRVING PARK — In what HQ Howard Quintero owners called "a stunning miracle of state efficiency," the restaurant is now in possession of a liquor license.

Phil Howard and Eduardo Quintero announced the news on Facebook, along with a "temporary" selection of beer and wine.

Since opening in February, HQ, 4114 N. Kedzie Ave., has added brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays. The menu includes the usual suspects of omelettes and pancakes, but also a few eye-catchers: croissant stuffed french toast and something called the green-eyed monster, featuring toasted bread topped with melted cheese, pork sausage, pinto beans, salsa verde and two eggs sunny-side up.

In other food-related news:

Serv Yo Self fro-yo recently opened at 2024 W. Montrose Ave. and is offering free yogurt cups for moms on Sunday. Flavors include salted caramel pretzel and triple chocolate, as well as a non-dairy mango sorbet option, added by popular demand.

Himmel's restaurant, 2251 W. Lawrence Ave., is celebrating its German roots with Tuesday's Bavarian Night, 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. For $39.95, diners will have their choice of pork shank, rainbow trout, schnitzel, sauerbraten and appetizers like obatzda, a classic beer-garden cheese dip.

Not that you need a reason to eat pizza, but on Monday, Lou Malnati's, 4340 N. Lincoln Ave., will donate 20 percent of proceeds to the Lincoln Square Friendship Center food pantry. Show this flyer when ordering.

Sweet Sensations' Sandy Hunter has survived through Episode 3 of the Food Network's Spring Baking Championship. Tune in at 8 p.m. Sunday to see if she makes it through another week. Better yet, stop into the bakery, 1918 W. Montrose Ave., to taste some of her handiwork.
