COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An aspiring rapper accused of planning the murder of his own mother for financial gain and flaunting his new fancy lifestyle on social media was heckled during a Wednesday status hearing by an angry relative.
Qaw'mane Wilson's mother Yolanda Holmes, 45, was shot and stabbed on Sept. 2, 2012 by two people who appeared to be robbing her, prosecutors said. Later, authorities say Wilson confessed to paying the duo to kill his mother.
Wilson's uncle Jerry Holmes paced in and out of the courtroom Wednesday morning waiting for his nephew to appear. Previously, family members complained about the court proceedings "taking forever," and the wait continued as Wilson appeared about an hour after the hearing was scheduled to begin.
At first, Holmes quietly listened as Judge Stanley Sacks scheduled another hearing. The he yelled, "what's up, Qaw'mane?"
Wilson stood silently in front of Sacks throughout the hearing in a yellow jumpsuit, holding a black and white composition notebook behind his back, below his long dreadlocks.
While Wilson didn't react to the confrontation, Sacks took offense, calling up Holmes to explain his actions.
Wilson explained "that woman he killed was my sister" to Sacks before he was warned and dismissed. In January of 2013, another one of Holmes' relatives was removed from court after yelling "you're going to hell, Qaw'mane!" during another hearing.
Wilson's next court date is scheduled for June 11.
