CHICAGO — Greater Grand Crossing area residents are being warned of an increase in robberies during the months of April and May, according to a police community alert.

Authorities say the robber, who has been described to police as a black teenager, between ages 16 and 18, weighing 120 to 160 pounds and between 5'5 to 5'7, throws his victims to the ground before taking their belongings.

As police search for the man, they are urging people in the neighbhorhood to stay vigilant and report anything they see that is suspicious by calling 312-747-8380.

Police said residents who are victimized or witness a robbery should stay on the scene and call 911 if possible.

The alert strongly warns against pursuing someone fleeing the scene of a crime.
