UPTOWN — Beloved restaurant Hopleaf and one of its longtime employees have partnered to launch a new monthly event for beer geeks and aspiring beer geeks alike.

Mark Bullock, longtime employee at Hopleaf, 5148 N. Clark St., teamed up with the restaurant to offer The Beer Social, a recurring event that will be held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. beginning May 12.

Each event will highlight a local brewer. Event-goers will be treated to beer samples and snacks courtesy of Hopleaf, according to Bullock, also the founder of brew company Beers and Big Shoulders. Bullock will talk to the guest and serve as the host for the evening.

Founder and owner of Bridgeport's Marz Community Brewing, Ed Marszewski, and some of his brewers will be the centerpiece of the first event.

The summer schedule is as follows:

• June 9: Pipeworks Brewing Co.

• July 14: Metropolitan Brewing and Off Color Brewing

• August 11: Spiteful Brewing

The event will be held in the upstairs bar at the restaurant. Tickets cost $25 and include four small samples of each brewery's beers paired with small-plate dishes; they can be bought online.
