LINCOLN PARK — Police are investigating a reported criminal sexual assault that injured a Lincoln Park woman early Monday.

The woman reported that she was assaulted in an apartment in the 500 block of West Arlington Place about 1 a.m. Monday, police said.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) sent an email alert Tuesday that stated the victim ran out of the apartment yelling for help after the attack and that neighbors were able to assist her and call the police.

Smith's alert stated that the victim and suspect met at a nearby bar.

During the assault, the 24-year-old victim suffered a cut on her leg and was later taken to Illinois Masonic hospital in stable condition, according to Chicago Police spokesman Jose Estrada.

"The case is under investigation and is being handled with the utmost care to protect the victim and the neighborhood," Smith said in the alert. "This is a serious allegation and we will be following the investigation."

A police source stated that detectives do not believe it was a random attack and there was possibly a previous relationship between the attacker and victim.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Town Hall Police District at 312-744-0064.
