Three Margaritas To Try Today for Cinco De Mayo

FULTON RIVER DISTRICT — Looking for a way to brighten up this rainy Cinco de Mayo?

Transport yourself to a beach in Puerta Vallarta with a fruity or classic cocktail from a veteran Chicago mixologist.

DNAinfo Chicago recently met up with Wirtz beverage development specialist Johnny Costello, who shared three of his favorite margarita recipes in celebration of the Mexican holiday.

Costello, a veteran of GT Fish & Oyster and Tiny Lounge, among other Chicago haunts, guides us through the cocktails in a video shot at The Dawson, 730 W. Grand Ave.

Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for "the fifth of May," celebrates the Mexican army's 1862 victory at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican war. Often mistaken for Mexico's Independence Day (that's in September), the holiday is celebrated more raucously in the U.S. than in Mexico, where it's considered more of a regional holiday.

In 2005, Congress officially recognized the historical significance of the Mexican holiday.

Reporter David Matthews talks about his taste test of Costello's three margaritas.
