Teen Charged With Shooting 12-Year-Old Boy in Austin: Police

CHICAGO — Charges were filed against a 16-year-old boy believed responsible for shooting a 12-year-old boy in Austin on April 29, police said Tuesday night.

The teen, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm after shooting the 12-year-old around 6:15 p.m. on April 29 in the 5900 block of West North Avenue, according to a statement from police. 

The 12-year-old boy was walking when he heard shots and realized he had been struck in his back and underarm. 

The boy taken to West Suburban hospital and then transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he is in serious condition, police said.
