LINCOLN PARK — Lincoln Park High School is looking for a new men's basketball coach to turn the program into a perennial contender.

After just two years on the job, Terry Mister is stepping down.

The school is now looking for a long-term answer.

"We really want to try to get some continuity and someone who really wants to be here at Lincoln Park," Boraz said. "Not somebody who just wants to get something on their resume, who wants to go for the next big thing."

Mister joined Lincoln Park after coaching at South Loop Elementary School for the 2012-2013 season.

His decision to leave was for personal family reasons, Boraz said.

Boys basketball tryouts are set for Nov. 10, but Boraz and athletic director Brian Murphy hope to hire a new coach before the end of this school year.

"Of course academics is the priority," Boraz said. "We want somebody who really understands that it's academics first and then sports and clubs and other extracurriculars."

The team plays in the Chicago Public League Red North; last year's basketball team finished 11-10 and 4-5 in conference, then lost in the playoffs to Whitney Young High School.

Moving forward, the school's administration is considering a few candidates from inside the building as well as a few from outside, including one who played at the high school and is currently working in the Chicago Public Schools system.

Boraz plans to put together a selection panel of coaches from other sports, some parents and a few graduating players.

“We have a ton of really good committed kids, good players, good students great attitudes," Boraz said. "We have a ton of potential to really have a good program. We just need somebody who is really going to come in and commit to building over time."

Coaching candidates do not have to be a teacher at the school, but physical education teachers have preference for the openings, according to CPS policy.

Interested candidates should send their resumes to mjboraz@cps.edu.
