LINCOLN PARK — "Out of the University of Leashiana, a three-month old male cornerbark..."

With the first overall pick in the inaugural Road to Puppy Bowl Draft, Team Ruff went with Chicago fan-favorite Charles "Peanut Butter" Tillman.

"That's a bit of a reach!" said former Bears player Alex Brown.

Brown was joined by former Bears Jay Feely and Anthony Adams as well as Cincinnati Bengals veteran Eric Winston and Carolina Panthers' Thomas Davis at PAWS Chicago, where the five-round draft was held Wednesday afternoon.

By the end of the draft day, 39 animals were adopted.

The event was just one of many scheduled around the NFL Draft, which is being held in Chicago for the first time Thursday through Sunday.

The excitement behind the Puppy Bowl Draft brought dozens of families out to the shelter.

"They are going to a place where they are wanted, and that’s what you want," Brown said. "As a player, that’s all we ever wanted, to be on a team that wants you."

The draft commissioner was an Animal Planet Puppy Bowl referee.
